Historicist Analysis of Any Piece of Fiction from your Textbook. For this discussion you will analyze two related texts (the first a short story and the second a text, essay, interview, biography, etc.; both written by or about the same author). Synthesize the ideas presented in both texts. In other words, your discussion will create a conversation that connects both works to one another. This act of synthesis is essential to integrating sources into your literary analysis and your papers.
Describe your reaction to the story. What was the central message of the story to you? Then, consider the secondary source (text, essay, interview, biography, etc.). After reflecting on the relationship between both texts, discuss how each work informs the other. How does the secondary commentary influence your reading and understanding of the story, and vice-versa? (This discussion is an exercise not only in integrating sources into your literary analysis, but also in applying a Historicist reading to your text.)
Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.
