Choose one of the following topics:

• Compose a New Criticism analysis of “Forgiving My Father,” by Lucille Clifton (p. 55). Use the appropriate vocabulary suggested for this critical theory. You must use excerpts from the text and appropriate theoretical critics to support your claims. 

• Compose a Reader-Response analysis of “Since There’s No Help,” by Michael Drayton (p. 91 – 92). Use the appropriate vocabulary suggested for this critical theory. You must use excerpts from the text and appropriate theoretical critics to support your claims. 

For this assignment, you need to use Texts and contexts: Writing about literature with critical theory and two other scholarly sources to support your argument about one of the above works. It is recommended that these come from the Ashford Online Library, but you can also use other sources with your instructor’s approval. In order to prepare for this assignment, it is suggested that you answer the “Questions” at the end of your chosen poem.
