Ashford ENG 318 Week 3 Assignment Writing Creative Nonfiction
Writing Creative Nonfiction. Due by Day 7. You will be creating several pieces of writing for the course and sharing this work each week for peer review and instructor comments. At the end of the course, you will submit a portfolio as part of the Final Project, which will showcase all of your revised work. This week, you will be writing a piece of nonfiction. Choose one of the following aesthetics:
• Write an essay based on your own life experiences. Be sure to use a consistent point of view and consistent narration as it is outlined in Chapter 3 of your primary text. It is your story, so you are its narrator. Use Joan Didion’s “After Life” as a model.
• Write an essay that explores an historical real-life event that you were not personally involved in. Use David Foster Wallace's essay, "Consider the Lobster" as a model.
• Write an essay that shows the effects of a recent event on a real person (e.g., someone affected by Hurricane Katrina, the Southern California fires, or another natural disaster). Use Ta-Nehisi Coates’ essay, "The Case for Reparations," as a model.
The essay must be between three and five pages in length and formatted according to APA style. If you use sources (e.g., in an experimental narrative), be sure to properly cite all of your sources within the body of your essay and in a separate References page. In addition to submitting this assignment to your instructor by Day 7, you will post this draft for a peer review during Week Four’s Workshop: Creative Nonfiction discussion. A final revision of the assignment will be required for the Creative Writing Portfolio portion of the Final Project, which is due in Week Five.
