Ashford ENG 318 Week 1 Assignment Writing Poetry. Due by Day 7
Writing Poetry. Due by Day 7. You will be creating several pieces of writing for the course and sharing this work each week for peer review and instructor comments. At the end of the course, you will submit a portfolio as part of the Final Project, which will showcase all of your revised work. This week, you will write three poems. One poem must be written using a form (i.e. sonnet, sestina, villanelle, or ghazal); one poem must be written around a compelling image; and one poem must incorporate elements of narrative. The examples in the ENG318: Creative Writing: Week One Recommended Poetry Resources PDF will help you get started with writing your poems.
On a single Microsoft Word document, place each poem on its own page with a carefully chosen title. For each title, in parenthesis, indicate the type of poem you have written (i.e., formal, imagistic, narrative). For example, “I Go Back to May 1937 (narrative).” Remember that you must write one of each kind for this assignment.
Each poem should be formatted in a way that demonstrates exceptional use of the page. It’s suggested that you consult the published poems in this week’s readings as models for your own work.
