Ashford ENG 380 Week 4 Discussion 1 Exploring Other Literary Research Resources
Exploring Other Literary Research Resources. In this week’s first discussion prompt, you will compare various resources scholars use to find relevant secondary sources. Along with Internet search engines and library databases, another resource for information is a subject guide. Subject guides are usually developed by librarians or subject experts who have evaluated the information resources and have determined that they include useful resources. Most subject guides today are posted online, and rely heavily on Internet sources.
Search in two or more of the online literature subject guides, each listed below, for information relevant to the poem that you will analyze in this week’s second discussion prompt. Then write a post which describes your search experience. How did you look for information (search by keywords, browsing for materials listed under certain categories, etc.)? How did this experience compare to searching through a search engine and through a database? What advantages and disadvantages do you see in this research approach? Under what circumstances (if any) would you look for information through subject guides (vs. through a database or an Internet search engine like Google?).

Ashford ENG 380 Week 3 Assignment Annotated Bibliography
Annotated Bibliography. In Week Five, you will submit a Final Paper. This week, you will develop an annotated bibliography as a step toward completing the Final Paper. First, review the assignment instructions for the Final Paper, found in Week Five of your online course or in the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of the Course Guide. Then, use the databases from the Ashford University Library to locate the five sources that you will need for the paper on the short story you choose to analyze. You may use secondary sources that you have already located when completing previous assignments for this course. Be sure, however, that those sources still are relevant to your paper topic and thesis. (Often the paper topic and thesis evolve over the course of researching, so the topic or thesis with which you began may differ from that which you are now developing.)
For each secondary source, first cite the source in correct APA format. Then include two-paragraph annotation. At a minimum, each paragraph should be four to five sentences in length:
1. The first paragraph should clearly summarize the source and explain its relevance to the selected literary text.
2. The second paragraph should summarize the secondary source’s content as it relates to your Final Paper’s main idea and critical approach. In other words, you should discuss exactly how the article relates to your own thesis. You should also include at least one specific direct quote or paraphrased point in the secondary source that you will use in your paper. For this, you might even include a quote from the source.
